Maison Martin Margiela - first electronic presence

It was quite of a shock when i realised what happened to me at that time, when Maison Martin Margiela called me to organise a meeting. I was about to design their very first website.

They wanted to see my work - at that time everything was hosted on www.anti-chambre.net; I then met Patrick Scalon and Karina Motta De Oliveira with who I was about to start working for some time. I basically had the opportunity to setup an anti-chambre like website to promote the brand without promoting it - Maison Martin Margiela at that time didn’t really communicate to the public the same way as other fashion company used to. It was quite special: a communication which was not communicating much, even the collection were kept away from online display, letting out just enough of the brand’s spirit…
This website was a mimic of a directory tree file listing (a default apache feature); with a bit of advanced typography and a lot of retenue. Since then, the website has been updated, and changed - but the initial concept remained: displaying the underlying structure of what a website is - intricated piles of folders and files, images and documents.
