A prototype for new typography experiments

The screenshot below shows the ENF-cH-C50a Regular which stands for something like ElectroNest Font - classics Helvetica - Contour 50 angulated. This complex name is pretty much quite good self-explanatory of what happened to the Helvetica font here.

Tommi, à propos, was saying it looked like the Helvetica Rounded **. It’s true but no curved corners here: everything is cut, sharp, in an angle, creating a sharp and bold version of the (now classical) Helvetica typeface.

When shown to Livia ***, it happened she quite like it - and the overall feedback from friends was quite positive so we thought it could be nice to distribute it as prototype (soft launch? *) - we won’t guarantee it will be work for offset, Word or any other software which would have to go to the printer under your desk or at the print workshop. This prototype certainly has a tons of quirks like with the letter spacing: this is a prototype, take it as it is.
This prototype is one of the many we plan to develop following the same simple program: to revisit of traditional and classical models by following a simple set of rules - in an automated manner - using day to day simple filters and usual tools.

    Thanks!
Got it, looked at it, haven’t tried it yet. Nice in upper-case, as a title, not sure when used for text.. am agreeing with Tommi, looks like the Helvetica Rounded.

indeed a nice helvetica. the risk of not working for the print business can be easily minimized. hope linotype isn’t upset about that, haha

  6. Ziga Says:

I like it, what is it?
What have you done to it actually?
    would like to know more…

  7. jerome rigaud Says:

not sure what you do not understand :)

  8. Ziga Says:

Well for starters is it redrawn entirely or is it just plain helvetica with angulated corners?

  9. jerome rigaud Says:

plain helvetica with angulated and extra weight - it’s little bit the same process as here: http://textasplayground.net/assembling/2007/10/27/angula-fonts-vectors-compression/

hi, i have used it in a call-for-entries for our typographic magazine:

    http://www.slanted.de/node/1796

i really like it a lot, it’s kind of a «re-mixing» existing fonts, a personalization. would you mind, if we would use it in the printed magazine as well, in one of the forthcoming issues?

  11. jerome rigaud Says:

    hi flo,
even if the font needs some rework (it is very rough sketch) it would be nice to see it printed in its actual state; if you can arrange the delivery of a few magazine where it is used, it would be even nicer :)

  12. flo Says:

the rough sketch character is something i especially like .. a provisional, temporarily font, not perfect .. i will send you copies if we use it, of course. next issue should be out in october .. thanks a lot!
